Wedding Reception Decorating Ideas: Express Yourself!

When you get married, never forget that it’s the most special day of your entire life, and you should use the occasion to express your personality.

You’ll rarely get such an opportunity to let who you are shine through in the same way.  Much of the wedding is traditional, and custom will dictate who stands where, who does what when, etc.  But it’s in the reception that you can really let your personality come through.  So when you consider wedding reception decorating ideas,  trust your own sense of what sort of reception you’d like to have, and don’t feel pressured to decorate in a certain way because that’s how the “typical” wedding is done.

Remember, your guests will spend far more time at the reception than at the actual ceremony itself.  Typically, the actual ceremony will take no more than an hour, while the reception can last well into the night.  In fact, many of the fondest wedding memories that stay with people for years are actually memories of events that occur at the reception.  That’s because the marriage has actually been sealed, and the tension is over, so people are a lot more able to enjoy themselves.  And as long as you meet their needs with good food, a lot of fun, etc., they won’t mind a bit if your wedding reception decorating ideas are a bit out of the mainstream.

So pick the theme that you yourself like the best, and then start building on that foundation.  If a traditional, formal theme is what you like best, that’s great.  Pick out linens and place settings that reflect that theme.  Choose lighting that enhances it, and go with the usual wedding favors to give your guests.  But if you want to go with a more whimsical or eclectic theme, and you’ve found one you really like, don’t let a wedding planner talk you out of it.  It’s your day, not hers, and while you appreciate her advice, it’s your wedding, and you’ll make the final decision.  Choose the wedding reception decorating theme you prefer, and express yourself accordingly!
