Do You Love Weddings? Decorating can be profitable

We have all been to wedding that just seem to have “something extra”. Something is just different, although you can’t put your finger on it. These are the weddings you remember long afterwards. Chances are, it’s probably something small that was done in the decoration that “brought it all together”.
On the other hand, have you been to weddings where you felt some things could have been done differently, and a better , more striking effect could have been created simply using what was there, but applying it differently? Your creative capabilities could make the difference between someone else’s wedding being “just another wedding”, or being memorable by having that “something extra”. Using your sharp sense to spot possibilities for improvement at weddings, decorating can hold career, and even business prospects for you.

For many companies doing catering for weddings, decorating is often part of the package. Offering your services as an add-on to such a company would make the team more versatile, and attract more clients in the process. It need not be an extra outlay for the company, and it could be beneficial to both of you.

The other option, of course, is to start your own business. When you start out offering your services at weddings, decorating services don’t require much of a capital outlay. What you might need to do, if you have not already done it before, is to  offer your services for free once or twice, so that you can offer references to prospective clients. Beyond that, it’s all just a question of marketing and advertising.

Take pictures of everything you do, and put them up on a blog or website. Add the web address onto your business card, and you have a marketing tool that costs very little, yet tells the prospect everything you would like to bring across. As you do more and more weddings, decorating pictures are simply added to the blog or website (online portfolio), and adds to your credibility, and profit. You can even exchange links with other related, but non-competing business to gain more exposure for your website. Just like you will network with other related companies for your mutual benefit.
