Church Wedding Decorations: How Much Should You Do?
On your wedding day, you want to create a lasting impression. You want the picture to be fixed in the minds of your guests forever. Although your guests will spend less time in the church than in the reception hall, it is still possible to create a lasting memory.
How striking the effect will be, will depend on the amount of thought, planning and effort poured into your church wedding decorating.
Depending on the church, and the rules and policies, you will be able to add decorations to a number of key areas. You should be able to decorate the pews and aisle, but you may be allowed to add decorations to the altar, the door, the entrance, and hopefully add a striking center piece. If you really want to, you may even want to go as far as doing something on the ceiling, although some balloons with ribbons would probably be enough to add some life to it.
The church wedding decorating should enhance, and compliment the bride, and not compete with her. You are, after all, the single most important “decoration” of the event. The decorations should simply add to the atmosphere, and complete the “picture” the guests should remember. Be careful not to overdo it.
Typical church wedding decorating used would include flowers (fresh and dried), ribbons and candles, adding some lace and beads to taste. The flowers, being the more important part of the theme, are merely complemented by any other additions. The effect of enhancing, rather than competing, is easily achieved by a color scheme flowing through all the flowers, the choice of which is determined by the bride’s bouquet. You could also add some warmth to the surroundings by using potted plants. You should be able to borrow some of these, resulting in little or no cost.
Consult with the church to established what is allowed, and what not. Some churches will go to great lengths to help you make the most of your great day, but some more traditional churches may be somewhat more strict as to what they allow. But as long as you remember that the bride is the center of attraction, any limitations imposed will not be much of a problem.
